Elton Reservoir is a large, open stillwater offering classic reservoir fishing in a spacious, windswept setting. With its broad expanse of water, exposed banks, and the varied contours typical of a working reservoir, it provides anglers with a challenging but rewarding venue throughout the year. The scale of the water means fish location, watercraft, and adaptability play a major role in success.
Although formal stock surveys are not published, Elton Reservoir is well known for holding a diverse range of coarse species, including:
Roach to around 1 lb
Bream into double figures
Perch to approximately 2 lb
Tench to around 5 lb
Pike to roughly 15 lb
Carp reported up to 25 lb
This mix makes Elton suitable for pleasure anglers, specimen hunters, and predator anglers alike.
Anglers describe Elton Reservoir as:
Big and open, with plenty of water to explore
Challenging, especially in windy or changeable conditions
Rewarding, particularly for those who enjoy locating fish rather than fishing to obvious features
Versatile, offering opportunities for float, feeder, carp, and predator fishing
The reservoir’s size and exposed nature mean conditions can shift quickly, making it a great venue for anglers who enjoy reading the water and adapting their approach.
Elton is ideal for anglers who enjoy:
Large, natural-feeling waters rather than small commercial pools
Exploratory fishing, searching for shoals and features
Seasonal variety, with different species coming to the fore at different times
Specimen opportunities, especially for bream, pike, and carp
Whether you’re targeting a net of roach and skimmers, a slab of double‑figure bream, or a winter pike, Elton offers plenty of scope.
